I woke-up this morning and felt pretty good. I checked my office emails (as I have been for the past week) and decided to check on my Metlife Short Term Disability Claim online.
It read: CLAIM DENIED!
I knew that Metlife and Kaiser were having trouble getting together. Metlife insists on talking to my doctor (busy surgeon) and having him fill out a lot of very detailed paperwork on why I am not working right now . Kaiser wants Metlife to fax all their stuff to a claim center where it is to be processed.
I called Metlife (for the sixth time since returning home) to find out what the latest snafu is. The lady at Metlife tells me I need to get a certain form from Kaiser, have it signed by all and fax it to them. And I need to check this and check that. I finally interrupted the lady and told her, "If I could do all that you are asking me to do, I would be able to work right now. At this time I cannot talk, cannot drive, cannot tilt my head up down or side-to-side." She sounded sympathetic, but still made it clear that it's up to me to make all this happen.
So I guess Dana and I are heading to Kaiser tomorrow. I am not too sure what we are suppose to do, but God help the first person that makes eye contact with me tomorrow morning. I am sure it will work out.
Then my next call will be to my HR person at work. The Metlife lady told me even if everything they are asking for ends up on their fax machine tomorrow, that it will be x number days for this and x number of days before that. The way things are going, I need to make sure I am going to get a paycheck next payday. You know, I almost ditched the STD and just took vacation for the days that I am out. I wish I had now.
Be sure to ask about AFLAC at work. I know that I am now.
