In the middle of the championship game tonight, the official book in the scorebox showed that the Twins starting pitcher had pitched too many innings in the tournament. Because of this, the game was immediately stopped, protested and forfeited. It was not the way we wanted to win the championship, and I know it was a record-keeping error on the Twins part. Our win was certainly more bitter than sweet.
Even though we were down at the time (as we usually are early in the game) I felt like we were switching into our comeback gear. Worse case, the Twins would have to beat us the second game to win the whole thing. I still felt confident at the time of the forfiet that we had a good chance to win it all.
I had a good time at the ballpark tonight. First of all it was good to get out of the house. Kim made me a batch of signs to hold up tonight (and I used them!). Coach Tim and his family bought me a little bullhorn to use. The team presented me with a nice "get well" card and I shook a lot of hands and hugged a lot of necks tonight.
Thanks to my good friend and coworker, Bob McDonnell, for giving Carson and me a ride to the game tonight. And I was really surprised to meet another friend and coworker, Bob Petty, at the park. Real special thanks to Mike Hill for running the grill for Dana tonight. I know how much Mike hates the grill. And thanks to Sue Martin for her nice show of support tonight. That really meant a lot to me. It was good seeing Uncle Dan at the game too.
Once again, the Cardinals are the champions and we sure would have liked to have won it differently tonight.

Congratulations to the TEAM and Carson (and of course you-Jeff) for making it to the game and getting to experience the thrill. I had wanted to come up to support you and the team, but this weekend kicked me and I was dozing off at work (imagine that, with the phones ringing). Got to bed at 7:30 and feel much better today. Not sure I remember driving home!
Anyway we're thingking about you and there's a rib plate with your name on it at Williamson's.

Thanks Jeff for a perfect evening at the ball park. I too hated for the game to end that way especially since the comeback was building with Carson pitching. But the fact is that the Cardinals were at the championship game for one reason and that is they are a great team. The effort and enthusiasm that they put in their game was very evident. I have no doubt they would have won anyway. I throughly enjoyed the outing. I enjoyed seeing Bob McDonnell, Dillon, Dan and Dana (thanks for the great hot dog). Everyone was so delighted that you were there. The Cardinal coaches running over to get your advise on game strategies, the kids continually making there way over to say hi and their parents expressing their joy to see you. But most of all seeing you out there on the mound with the other coaches while your team gets their championship trophy. Seven hour cancer surgery only four days ago, thanks for demonstrating the super human powers of a man, husband and father to all of us.

Hi, Jeff and Dana!
I finally got a link to your site and want you to know that we're all thinking of you and wishing you the very best. I'm so glad to "see" your smiling face in what you've written. It's great to keep a sense of humor and a positive attitude when something like this comes along. I don't get to travel down South very often anymore, but we'll be watching for your return up here!! Many blessings...Ann Thielen
Hey Jeff! I didn't find out until today that you were ill but I'm glad to hear that you are doing better. I also think the blogsite was a good idea given the situation. By the way, don't worry about the voice, it will be fine and back to normal before you know. Again, glad to see you are doing well. See you when you are back in the office which now should be soon. Keeping you in my prayers in the meantime. William
Wow Jeff - it's great to hear that you were able to go to the ball game! I've been gone on a BWCAW canoe trip since Thursday night but I sure was thinking about you. My thoughts and prayers continue to be with you. Take care, Julie
