It's been over 72-hours since I took the two radioiodine pills - 3-days. It is here that I have conflicting information about what I can and cannot do. All the basic information talks about isolation for 3-days. One form that I had to initial from the hospital had 24-36-hours as the limits for most exposures. But I have an Outpatient Guide from Director of Nuclear Medicine at Northside that limits contact exposure for 96-hours. This is also the Doctor who told me in person that I should not travel with my family on Monday for 8-hours in a car.
So, to be safe, I am still down in the basement. But I should be fine to go upstairs to make a sandwich or grab a drink without the kids yelling "CODE RED, CODE RED!"
Besides, there can't be anymore radioiodine in me because I know that I have been up the stairs to the bathroom well over 30-times over the past three days.
This ordeal has not been bad at all. I know most people who have conventional radiation treatment for their cancer, like chemo, really suffer from the brutal side effects. Mine deal was a walk in the park compared to what those folks go through.
More watching baseball, reading and napping on the agenda this afternoon, and 10am Sunday morning will be here before you know it.
