When I wake-up in the morning and I speak normal room volume, my voice sounds a lot like it did before the surgery. You have to remember, it was not working correctly before the surgery, but it was functional. If I can get back, or close, to that level - I will be happy.
As the day goes on, it becomes a little more strained where it becomes a chore to talk - and for others to understand. I hope my vocal cord becomes stronger and compensates as time passes along.
The Doctor said that even though the one side vocal cord was not working correctly, it was under some tension that help give me some added tone when I was speaking. When he removed the nerve from that side, the tension also left, making it a little harder to speak.
My best sounding voice day was Friday. I gave my Mom a call while it was good. While our phone call lasted over an hour, I am not too sure how much I got to talk (just kidding Mom!). When my voice starts to go out, it reminds me of when I was going through puberty and how my voice cracked every morning when I answered "hear" during roll call at school in three cracking octaves and two oscillating pitches. It sounds like that now.
As my incision heals, the skin on my neck is pulling tighter. It would be nice if the skin pulled down, giving me a sort of face lift. But no, my skin is pulling up from my chest. I know some people actually pay for this cosmetic effect, but I feel no need to be more "perky" after this surgery.
Have a great Memorial Day weekend!

Jeff, I just got back from the camp and couldn't wait to see if you had updated. So glad to hear you are making some improvements with the voice. You and that sense of humor!!! Just don't know where you inherited it from!!!
Keep posting. Love Aunt Bev
Hey Jeff! Excellent update! My friend Tina had a neck incision recently and they told her Vitamin E would be good to help with the scar. Loved the 5-26 update "Why me? How me?" I heard a sermon one time preached on "Why not me?" Hard to answer either way. We will keep you in our prayers and look forward to the return of the "Mean Bus Driver" voice. We love you. The Bennetts
